Welcome to this 100% online, open and free course.

This course is aimed at anyone who wants to obtain sufficient training in both Rioja and wine tourism. It will help to have the necessary and essential basis to be part of this professional community, within teams such as public relations of wineries and agencies that specialise in tours and visits.

You will immerse yourself in a wealth of knowledge about all of the virtues and factors that make our region different from the rest: the territory, grape varietals, the human element, the styles of wine that are created, the classifications of Rioja wines, regulations on viticulture and aspects to do with production, gastronomy and history. You will study the skill set that professionals in this field must have: setting up wine culture experiences and activities, customer service, managing situations, terminology in English and wine service.


When you complete the course, you will have a sound knowledge of Rioja and you will understand why it has the position it has among the world's great and most recognised wines.

You will acquire a body of knowledge that will stand you in good stead to be able to convey and provide a better experience and service to visitors, as well as understanding the importance of being one of the company's faces to the general public.

Estimated duration: 20 hrs.

Assessment: At the end of each module there will be a set of review questions relating to the content. To progress to the next modules, you will need to answer 100% of the questions correctly and you will have a limited number of attempts.

At the end of the course you will take the final exam. This will consist of 30 questions, which you will have to answer within a time limit of 30 minutes. To be awarded the Diploma in Rioja Wine Tourism, you must answer at least 75% of the questions correctly. 

You have a maximum of 2 attempts to pass your exam, but if you fail, RWA will launch a new call every three months - with two other opportunities - of which you will be informed in advance so that you can take the exam again and obtain the certificate.

    “ Rioja Wine Academy / Rioja Wine Diploma Wine Tourism ”: The final module completed with enjoyment. Not necessarily high powered marketing material but relevant for promotional means. It compresses ideas and relevance based on historical facts and new developments in a positive manner. Again read questions carefully although some might be ambigious with more answers than one. A relevant and informative directive optic on endeavours made to promote the eminence of Rioja as an área of importance and pedigree standing proud historically in the Wine World amidst competition that abounds .

    The course contained great material to consider from a Tourism business viewpoint. Thank you for providing this aspect of study with regard to Rioja Wines. The information provided is beneficial no matter what wine region would be involved. The Final Exam was challenging and clear from a translation standpoint.
